It looks like it has been ages since I had updated the blogs. I have made a resolution that come what may I have to keep the blog active.
The men's final was an interesting one with Roger Federer and Andy Roddick. Federer was going for the record 15th grand slam to go beyond the legendary Pete sampras and he was facing the Comeback kid Andy Roddick who has brought a sea change in his game after using the services of a new coach. The stage was set for an interesting battle. The game started on expected lines with players holding on to their servers and finally Roddick played a brilliant game to break Federer's serve to take the first set 7-5.This would have given a great impetus to Roddick as Federer was expected to run away with the 3 sets to clinch the championship. The second set went into a tie break with Roddick missing a golden oppurtunity to take the second set after having 4 set points at 6-2 to lose the set at 8-6.
The 3rd set also went into a tie break and after a close tie break federer won the set to go 2-1 up in the final. There was an early break of serve from Roddick in the 4th set and Roddick won the 4th set. The 5th set was a real humdinger and it went on with serves as there are no tie breaks in final set and Federer won the marathon final 16-14 in 5th set by breaking Roddick for the first time in the match lasting just beyond 4 hours to clinch the Championship.FeD Ex had delievered again and he created history by braking sampras's record. Credit is due for Andy for putting up a valiant display of tennis and as vijay amritraj said they resembled 2 gladiators on court that day.
It was tennis of the highest order and Federer proved again why he is a great player. It was good effort from Andy and he has a great future if he continues to play this way.
All in all it was a super sunday.
Cheers,
Raj
